Ghost boy plays hide and seek
In 1971 I was working for a Colonel Stoney of Cowes in Claremont House in Market Hill. I was with two carpenters, Tom Pragnell and Eddie Richards. One day we were working in a top bedroom and became aware of a young boy, aged about 4, with long blonde curls and dressed in an old-fashioned sailor suit, who kept peering round the open door and then pulling back out of sight.
Tom said, " He's playing hide and seek with us." At tea break in the kitchen Tom asked the lady if they had guests staying with children. She replied, "No, why do you ask?"
Tom explained, whereupon she laughed and said, "Oh that's just one of our ghosts."
She said that she and her husband also saw the ghost of an old sea captain who, on stormy nights, would walk to his drinks cabinet in the lounge - where he kept his rum, and would not settle until the weather improved.
Eddie refused to work at the top of the house again!
