Fire outbreak blights Gatcombe Manor's big day
FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire at flats at the former Whitecroft hospital, near Newport on Saturday night.The fire was reported shortly before 9pm and was on the ground floor, according to Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. A launch event was being held by the developers Mildren Homes when the blaze broke out in the bedroom of a block of six flats.
Leigh Edwards, managing director of Mildren Homes, said no-one was hurt and residents would be given hotel accommodation for the night. The blaze was extinguished by around 10pm. now being converted into luxury houses and apartments.
